Easy Focaccia with Sesame Seeds
- Focaccia Dough
- 2 cups all-purpose flour, or bread flour
- 1½ teaspoons instant yeast
- ½ teaspoon granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup warm water, about 100-110°
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Focaccia Topping
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon of sesame seed
- A sprinkling of coarse sea salt
- Butter or oil a 10”-12” cast iron skillet; set aside.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, whisk together 1½ cups flour, yeast, sugar and salt.
- Add the water and olive oil.
- When the dough comes together and starts to pull away from the side add in another ¼ cup of flour. Mix until smooth but will still be sticky.
- Sprinkle surface with remaining ¼ cup flour; knead dough until smooth and no longer sticky.
- Shape dough into a round; place in a large cast-iron skillet.
- Cover with a clean towel.
- Place in a warm place for 20 - 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 400°F.
- Use your fingertips to poke indentations in dough.
- Brush with half the butter
- Sprinkle with sesame seed and coarse salt.
- Bake in preheated oven for 20 - 25 minutes or until golden.
- Remove from oven and brush with remaining butter.
- Cool in pan on a wire rack then slide focaccia out of skillet.
- Cut into squares or sandwich size; serve.
